Hacker claims to have stolen 1 bln records of Chinese citizens from police

A hacker has claimed to have procured a trove of personal information from the Shanghai police on one billion Chinese citizens, which tech experts say, if true, would be one of the biggest data breaches in history.

The anonymous internet user, identified as "ChinaDan", posted on hacker forum Breach Forums last week offering to sell the more than 23 terabytes (TB) of data for 10 bitcoin , equivalent to about $200,000.

Did you know that...

About 20% of Bitcoin is considered "lost"

The stories of people losing hundreds of millions of dollars in virtual currencies continue to make headlines. Just last January, the New York Times published the story of Stefan Thomas, a German programmer who now lives in San Francisco and owns a digital wallet that holds the private keys of 7002 bitcoin coins, currently worth about $ 230 million, but lost passwords to him.

I’ve Lost My Password, What Do I Do?

Losing access to your Bitcoin or E-mail accounts can be a major inconvenience. Fortunately, that's all it needs to be, and there are ways to prevent even that.

We lose things; we forget.

It is in our nature, it’s what makes us human. “The art of losing isn’t hard to master,” observed Elizabeth Bishop in her poem One Art. Life is a continual surrendering to loss. Some fare better than others: for every Thomas, there is a Howells. “Lose something every day,” Bishop writes, and we oblige her. We lose coats, books, bags, phones, friends, money, loved ones, mobility and eventually, ourselves. Most of all, we forget our passwords. The average person has close to 80 passwords, hardly any of which they remember.

We think it is very important for you to be updated with the latest security news, so we bring you some Twitter Cyber Security accounts.

Have i been pwned?

Pwned Passwords

Pwned, in this context, simply means that your account has been the victim of a data breach. The word itself takes its name from player-to-player messaging in online computer gaming. When one player is defeated, another might type out a message to say ‘You’ve been owned’. This was so frequently misspelt as ‘pwned’, the word itself took off.

Pwned Passwords are hundreds of millions of real world passwords previously exposed in data breaches. This exposure makes them unsuitable for ongoing use as they're at much greater risk of being used to take over other accounts. They're searchable online below as well as being downloadable for use in other online systems (from https://haveibeenpwned.com/).

What should you do if your password was pwned?

What should you store in your DDBox?

Bitcoin and other Crypto passwords

In the direct context of this, the stories of people losing hundreds of millions of dollars in virtual currencies continue to make headlines. Just last January, the New York Times published the story of Stefan Thomas, a German programmer who now lives in San Francisco and owns a digital wallet that holds the private keys of 7002 bitcoin coins, currently worth about $ 230 million, but lost passwords to him.

Copy of important documents

You singed a new apartment lease? You got a new certificate for a course you just finished? Or maybe you just got married (congratulations) and recieved a marriage certificate? Why don't you make a copy ot the documents and upload them to your Digital Safe Deposit Box (DDB). This willassure you that when you deed a certain document you have a copy of it stored safly in your box.

Last Will and Testament

You wouldn’t believe how often a Last Will and Testament goes missing.

You also wouldn’t believe what a mess that causes for the heirs.

Most people think it is enough to keep their Will in a convenient place at home. However, that isn’t enough security for so important a document. For instance, what happens if those important papers were to perish in a fire or a flood, or if one of your heirs decides to steal the papers in order to cause problems upon your death? (of course that would never happen in your family…..) Or, if the dog ate it? Anything is possible.

Your valuable information is safe and secured

Just like a bank's vault, this digital vault is secured and allows entry only to the deposit box owner, through a computer and even thrue a mobile device.

Never loose a token or a valued document

A Final Word...

Hey, I’m Yona (yoni) Shaked, founder and CEO of weKeep!®.
In the past I was a QA manager at TIE international, and a Customer Relations Manager at DBC (Digital Business Community), bout in Israel.

I created weKeep!® as a free resource for anyone to quickly store their important information, at no risk and with a maximum guarantee, and insure that there will be no data breach. I wanted also to keep it dead simple to use and entirely free so that it could be of maximum benefit to the community.

In 1979, when I equiared my first personal computer (Tandy/RadioShack's TRS-80), I was fascinated by the ability to control the actions that this primitive computer will take. The computer language was "Basic" and there wasn't any operating system. The computer was my best friend from that day, and it still is today.
